first off - there was talk with
YCN in shoreditch about an exciting website project, more news soon...
and second - had good chat with
Tenderpixel in leicester square who were very supportive and have kindly agreed on letting me have a show there in July. I'll be showing the new work i make whilst in the desert. This may include some video footage and/or photography, but the main focus will still be on drawings. so watch out here for the new stuff as it happens. i'll also be writing more than i have before about the themes/thoughts/processes behind it all. (and thinking about starting a whole separate desert blog... for those interested. but more on this later.)
Also... news news news day.... Whilst in Hong Kong I'll be installing a big red heart in one of the windows of a
Lane Crawford store. i should be starting work on the model straight after the
chinese new year food+firecracking festivities. it'll be up for the month of Feb. perhaps it may entice you to spend money, perhaps it will make you wish you had love in your life. who knows. i just hope it looks good.
finally - i'm getting on a plane to hong kong soon. i have a bag full of books (the film selection is total balls), one of which is titled "Factories of Death" about Japanese biological concentration camp
Unit731 back in the day (many many days between 1937 - 1945) - i'd seen a film about this when i was about 6, think it was called "Men Behind the Sun:731" - actually i just remember a few scenes. one of a boy standing at a wire fence, looking in on an army camp. then one of 3 - 4soldiers with a football chatting and joking with the boy through the fence. then the boy is on an operating table with his front cut open and guts etc revealed. it's a strange colour of blue and some muted greens. and there's this scene where prisoners dip their arms in freezing cold water and then into a vat of boiling hot water, and then!! someone peels the skin off, like a plaster. it was pretty sick. i wonder who let me watch it.
